end of 2015

its almost the end of another year, and what a year it was! i bought a new apartment, and moved (yes i am crazy) got a new job, and a bunch of other big life changes. art didn't factor into the picture too much this year, which seems to be the norm lately unfortunately. i did set up a painting space in my new apartment so i am hoping to do more work in the new year. i didn't do a christmas card this year, but i just realized that i did not share any pictures from this years new york comic con! Thanks to everyone who came to visit us! as always I had a great time! we outdid ourselves with costumes this year. check it out! My favorite was our Bob's Burgers cosplay. it just came together so perfectly. i loved being Linda she is the BEST.

New York Comic Con

wow, can't believe i went this long without posting but, I moved again! we all know how draining and stressful moving can be so I haven't been doing a ton of artwork. I knew I had a lot of stuff as an artist with books and art supplies but goodness what a surprise! so many boxes! anyway now that that is over I am looking forward to getting more artwork done now that I have plenty of room to do it. No more teeny tiny apartment for me!

I will be attending New York Comic Con again this year with my friends Little Asian Sweatshop and Paigey! we are very excited to come out and I am hoping this will be a nice little jolt of inspiration for new artwork. I really hope to see some of you there. Please come by and say HI!

Hello all!
I'll be vending at Awesome con in Washington DC this weekend, May 29-31st with my friends Paigey! and Fenny of Little Asian Sweatshop! we will be in artists alley, tables AA 06 and AA07, right next to kids zone (hahaha!) I am pretty excited about this one, its always fun to do a show all together and in one of my favorite cities! should be really fun, lots of fun guests and panels. I'll have some new artwork, new prints as well as the usual goodies. I also have a few fun costumes in store. Come check it out if you'll be in the area!

Happy Spring and East Coast Comic Con

Happy New year and Happy Spring! haven't had a chance to post much this year it seems! I have some new artwork to share but for now, I wanted to share that I will be exhibiting at East Coast Comic Con in Secaucus, New Jersey April 11 and 12! This is the first time I will have my own full size table at a convention and I am nervous but excited. I am working hard on new merch and I hope to see you there!

Post NYCC and new art!

This is a little late but New York Comic Con has come and gone, and it was really fun and productive for me, but a little bit tiring! I would greatly benefit from better planning next year, like coming prepared with food etc. We had a great corner booth on the main floor which got a decent amount of traffic. I met a lot of great new people which is always fun for me. I also really enjoy preparing and coming up with new things to make and sell and new art to create. I work 9 hours a day plus commute creating artwork for a clothing company as my main job and as much as I enjoy drawing, sometimes I just want to come home and watch TV or hang out with friends instead of going home and doing more artwork, which is why I don't create as often as I would like sometimes. A big reason I like doing conventions is because it gives me a deadline on creating new artwork which I definitely need on those days and weekends when I am tired and don't feel very motivated to do new work.
Here's some pics of that weekend! we did fun outfits all three days which was really fun for me as I don't dress up for conventions or halloween very often.

New York Comic Con is here!

just a friendly reminder, New York Comic Con is upon us! I'll be sharing a booth on the main floor with my friends Fenny from Little Asian Sweatshop and Paigey! so come check us out if you can! I'll also be debuting this Batgirl print I did in honor of the new Batgirl comic by Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr. asbury park comic con

Hello! As I mentioned earlier, I will be exhibiting at Asbury Park Comic Con in New Jersey this weekend, April 12 and 13th! The convention will take place at the Berkeley Oceanfront hotel in Asbury, New Jersey. I'll be at table A104. clicky for more information!

 

I have been trying to come up with some new fun stuff to sell in addition to my prints and coloring book and I have designed some new magnets, mirrors, wooden brooches, and i'll be selling a couple of framed original mini gouache paintings. Once they are gone, they are gone, I won't be making prints of these! I am hoping to add at least 2 more, while of course, working my full time job with no days off. Nothing like super last minute prep! Hope to see you there!

Painting and some updates!

can't believe its been 2 months since I posted!
I have been doing some fun artwork that I have been posting to my facebook page and to my instagram account (follow me there for more updates!) but I recently finished this painting that I am pretty proud of. Its a rework of an older design that never really felt finished to me. I have been wanting to practice my gouache skills more because I was painting in oils for so long that anything else is a little bit difficult for me. I have a ways to go but I am pretty happy with this painting. I am having a hard time scanning in my paintings, as the colors never come out the way the actual painting looks in real life. I  have had even worse luck with this painting, so this is a crappy iphone picture I edited a little in photoshop but its still off. Hopefully I'll get a new scanner soon so I can share my original paintings better.

in other news I am going to be exhibiting at asbury park comic con in New Jersey this April 12-13! First convention on my own! I am excited but nervous as well. I will post more details as the convention approaches.

Baltimore Comic Con

Hello all! its been a really busy few months for me, as I am in the process of selling my apartment and am going to be moving soon! Not to mention some crazy work hours and trying to enjoy summer (wah its over!) but I am very excited that I will be exhibiting at Baltimore Comic Con in Artist Alley tables 244-245 this year for the very first time! I'll be vending with Paigey and Little Asian Sweatshop this weekend, September 7 and 8! So if you are in the area please come on over and check us out! I will having coloring books, prints, mirrors, buttons and hopefully some Christmas and Halloween greeting cards.

Post Heroes Con and a big etsy sale

Happy summer to all! After a busy few weeks, I am finally able to sit down and update.  I am doing a "post heroes con print sale" at my etsy store. All prints are now $7.00 for one week only. I had a few leftover prints from the show, so decided to have a sale. Check it out! I also finally posted my Pin Up coloring and activity book for sale!  For this week only I am also offering a free mini mirror with purchase of a coloring book.

First up during this busy June, was Heroes convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was graciously invited by my friend Paigey, her husband Phil and Fenny from Little Asian Sweatshop to share some space in artists alley this year. I had a great time last year, so I figured why not! It was a really fun experience again, and compared to other cons I have been to as both an attendee and as an artist, this one is truly about comics and comics creators. The people from Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, the comic book store in Charlotte that puts on the show were also very nice and accommodating, and made sure it was a good experience for everybody, from the super famous to the not so well known (like me!) I would definitely recommend a visit to this convention if you are a fan of comics and creators with less Hollywood fanfare than the other big conventions. Last years show was a great introduction to Heroes con for me, as it was their 30th anniversary and Stan Lee was a special guest, so there was a lot of enthusiasm going around and lots of people in attendance. This year felt a bit more spread out and low key, but I still got to meet new people, sell some of my new coloring books, which I am glad to say got good reception, and I got to meet fellow ZaPow artist Beck Seasholls, aka Becka Doodles! It was also nice seeing Sarah Dyer and her awesome daughter Emily--she was the little girl dressed as Xena! As well as amazing designer Vivcore. It was also cool having my work recognized from ZaPow gallery in Asheville. All in all a really good time :) Again, I would highly recommend this show.

After heroes con, I went on vacation to Vancouver, Canada for a week with a friend, and had a great time. It was really nice to get away and decompress and take in new sites, fresh air and friendly people, and not worry or think too much about work, art and every day life. Plus the weather was beautiful, the air was fresh and the food was awesome (ok, maybe I overindulged a bit!) We did everything from whale watching to hiking and I have to admit I am a little sad to be back home! People were so nice there and everyone seemed genuinely happy. I would love to visit more places in Canada. Suggestions?

Now that vacation and conventions are sadly over, back to the drawing board to create new art! I feel inspired and refreshed, but that might just be the jet lag talking :)

New art and my first book!

I have had a very productive couple of weeks, even though things are kinda hectic for me right now. I decided I will be attending heroes con in Charlotte, North Carolina again this year with Paigey! and Little Asian Sweatshop from June 7-9! I still can't believe almost one year has passed since then. Seems to have flown by, but I am very excited to go again this year. I had a blast last time, and this year we will be in artists alley! This also gives me a real deadline to do all the things I want to do, like new art, and something that has been in my head for more than a year now but I finally finished, a coloring book! I grew up on coloring books and preferred coloring to anything else. So I really wanted to do one of my own. I finally got the proof in the mail and I love it. Here is a sneak peek!

post heroes con

Heroes con 2012 has come and gone! and what a weekend it was! I was invited by my good friend Paige to come to heroes con with her and her husband Phil and be part of "Paigey and her amazing friends" The other amazing friends included Fenny from Little Asian Sweatshop fame who was also there (we bonded over Bojangles and white wine), and Christy Sawyer who wasn't present but her awesome wares were. It was my first real convention representing my artwork outside of girls drawin girls and it was a lot of fun! When Paige spoke about heroes being the best convention for artists she wasn't kidding. I got a chance to meet cool people like Stephanie Buscema, (who's work I have loved for a while) Sarah Dyer and her amazing little daughter and amazing designer Vivcore. There were so many others! I have to admit, I did have a "holy crap maria what are you doing here" moment. I kind of felt like a dorky new kid trying to get in with the cool kids! But everyone was SO nice  so that feeling didn't last long. Even attendees were so nice and polite and seemed genuinely interested and excited to be there. I met a lot of great people. It was really refreshing. New Yorkers can be a bit jaded and done it all seen it all bunch :p
Besides the actual convention there was some cool stuff going on. I actually donated a little tiny Batgirl painting to the Heroes con annual auction! I don't have any idea if it sold or for how much, as we missed the beginning of the auction. All the heavy weights of comic art were there so it was pretty darn cool to have been in the same room as them. Stan "the man" Lee was there the whole weekend! He was giving a speech at the end of the auction, and of course bing a rowdy bunch, we got shushed while he was speaking. Probably one of the highlights of the trip :p

I did a lot better sales wise than I was expecting which was really nice, I even sold out of a few prints! The other awesome thing about being there was that I got to meet the nice people from ZaPow! which was great! I have been emailing back and forth with Lauren from ZaPow for months and it was so nice to finally meet her in person! I am definitely in great company in ZaPow. I got a chance to see art from some of the other artists and the talent level was high.

I am sure I am leaving something out and rambling a bit, but all in all it was a great trip and experience and I am super grateful to Paige for inviting me, because I don't think I'd have ever done this on my own. We had a great time hanging out and it was one of those experiences I'll always remember :)
Now that Heroes con prep is over, I am getting back into my commissions and trying to come back to the real world :p

HeroesCon

Exciting news! I will be at HeroesCon in Charlotte, North Carolina from June 22-24!

 

I will be vending with the fabulous Paigey! and Fenny from Little Asian Sweatshop! I have only ever vended at New York Comic con and that was with Girls Drawin Girls, so I am excited and quite nervous! So many amazing artists will be there, so I am greatly looking forward to that.
I will be selling 8x10 prints, mini print packs, mirrors, original art and more, if I can find time to work on anything. Work has been busy and I have had quite a few requests for portraits which is fantastic and exciting, but portraits can be more time consuming and challenging then my other art.

New York Comic Con

Its that time of year again! girls drawin girls will have a booth at New York Comic Con in the Javits center. The convention goes from October 13-16. We are going to be located in Artists Alley, booth O1

I will be working the table on Sunday afternoon so come and say hi! I will have my super hero girls and some other prints for sale, and our book The Way Nature Made Her will also be for sale, not to mention lots of other art and products from everyone in the group. NYCC is always a really fun time so come on out.
