Holiday Baking

I hope everybody who celebrated had a very Merry Christmas! I said I'd be back with some of my holiday baking, and while I didn't make as much as I wanted to, I did manage to make some stuff I am proud of! First I set out to make cake pops again, as I have for the last few holidays. For some reason, most of them did not work out. out of about 25 I only got 12 good ones! I also didn't manage to get too many good pictures either. Here is one from inside my fridge.
These are chocolate peanut butter with white chocolate shells. Luckily, the few that made it were very tasty and pretty too!

I really wanted to make salted nutella fudge but again, time got away from me, as I worked right up until Christmas Eve, and these cake pops took longer than anticipated. On Christmas Eve I went to my sisters place and we attempted to make French Macarons. We made the batter twice, and I am happy to say, they worked out perfectly the second time! We made them plain with chocolate ganache. Of course them being one of the most notoriously difficult cookies to make, the second batch cracked in the oven and did not look like the first one. Same exact batter, same everything! Our theory is that the oven was just too hot after the first batch. But we figure one good batch is better than none! Behold!
so shiny and perfect!! we are not sure they are worth the effort to make them from scratch again (but we probably will. hah!) but we are so proud to say we got perfect French macarons on our first try!

As for art, I am hoping to be back with a New Years pin up before the New Year :)

Hope everyones Christmas was sweet!

Christmas time!

Its almost Christmas and that means new Christmas art! Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I always try to design a card for the occasion. This years is my favorite! I took inspiration from vintage greeting cards which I have a small collection of. They are my absolute favorites! So here is my card and some inspiration:
and check out this wonderful flickr for some examples of vintage greeting cards. I love them all so much! here are some of my favorites for Christmas

I will be back before Christmas to share some of my baking with everyone. I find baking is something I am enjoying more and more so why not share it! :)

Halloween art

Hello all! Hope everyone had a nice Halloween! Here on the east coast (and elsewhere I am sure) we got hit pretty bad by hurricane Sandy. The area of Brooklyn where I live got hit pretty bad with lots of damage due to flooding. My apartment building was flooded and badly damaged, but I am grateful that that was the worst of it. We are still currently without heat and hot water but I am grateful that I still have a place to call home even if it is freezing cold! I am also grateful that I have had very generous offers to stay with friends and family in case things don't improve here.

Anyway, I had planned to post this on Halloween but Halloween passed me by completely this year so here is a cute little halloween pin up I worked on.

Dia De Los Muertos at ZaPow!

Haven't had much time to do new work and update the blog unfortunately, but check out the Dia de Los Muertos show at ZaPow gallery in Asheville, North Carolina on October 5. The show will run from October 5th to November 18th. In addition to my usual prints, framed art and pocket mirrors, I will have my framed Day of the Dead pin up girl on display for the show. Need a friendly reminder?
I wish I was in Asheville to check out the show, as there will be lots of awesome art on display, as well as an opening reception on October 5 with free beer, sugar skull painting, and palm reading! Being in NYC I can't go, so go check it out for me :p

Commissions and Portraits

I can't believe I let a whole month pass since updating!! Since I got back from Heroescon, I had to really focus on the portrait commissions that were piling up. I have not had the chance to take on many personal projects! Work is also getting busy as we are designing and researching our fall line right now. There is also this little thing called summer I am trying to enjoy before its over and I find myself knee deep in snow and cold again. There is a lot I would like to work on, but I am having a hard time finding time. I want to work on more superhero redesigns, put together a little art book, paint, send work to ZaPow, etc etc.
anyway enough bellyachin! I don't have much personal work to show, but here are some portraits I have finished this last months:

This client really loves coffee and is Italian, so I thought it would be cute to make her portrait look like a vintage coffee label:

This client wanted a vintage bathing suit portrait and to add her cute little Boston Terrier:

and here is a fun indulgent project I did because I happen to be a big fan of Ice Loves Coco! Coco is the type of woman who people will automatically judge based on her appearance. After watching the show, she seems like a nice, normal down to earth person to me. I decided to take this modern day pin up and turn her into a classic pin up.
